The Grandparents Odyssey!
After lounging in the car seat for twelve blissful, sweet, carefree hours, I arrived at my Mumsy's grandparents' house in Fairborn, Ohio. Nana and Grandpa were very happy to see me and Dadsy and Mumsy. Well, they saw the back of Dadsy's head as he retreated to the bedroom to sleep off the trip.
Nana gave me this book of bunny rabbits which Grandpa and I perused on the sofa. I also met Uncle Howard and Aunt Margie, and Uncle Willard and Aunt Hazel. I got a small case of flashbulbitis, so when Daddy woke up and we got on the road that evening, I fell asleep.
Next stop was Madison, Wisconsin, and my Aunt Terri's college graduation. As the band pomped and circumstanced, I played with toys in Grammy's lap. I greatly enjoyed the event, and gave my own commencement address, composed mostly of vowels.
In a graceful little cottage on Lake DuBay in Wisconsin, I met my Dadsy's grandfather -- my great grandpa Netzer. In this photo, Grandpa is informing me of Dadsy's many childhood transgressions. Apparently, Dad was a real little stinker. Who knew?
Grandma Jean made us a delicious picnic lunch and Grandpa cooked hamburgers on the grill. I ate, uh, milk. As usual. I deeply appreciated the view of the lake, and though it was windy, I took in plenty of scenery.
Here I am closing the deal. What deal? How would I know? I can't even speak English! Daddy said something about working my way through college and supporting him in his old age. I'm sure he has my best interests at heart, so I shook on it, while Grandpa looked on.
In Marshfield, Wisconsin, I met my Grandma Shirley and Grandpa Bob, and also Grandma Moon, who called me Honey Boy and noted my vast size with great enthusiasm! I never get tired of hearing a Grandmother squeak about how huge I am. It makes me glad I spend so much time growing.
Somehow the easiest place to sleep is on Grammy's shoulder. She must have soporific qualities previously unknown to me. I also enjoyed her "Grover Near and Far" routine, and her little dog Pepper, who sent me into fits of giggles. And of course, who could forget that blessed lady's promise to never feed me peas!
Another quick twelve-hour car ride and we were in Detroit for a visit with Ahno and Grandma Jenkins. My how those car hours just flew by! Here I am examining my keys with my Grandma. If I could just figure out what these keys go to, I could drive myself around to visit grandparents and Mumsy and Dadsy could stop whining about their sleep deprivation. Why don't they just sleep in the car, like I do?
Hail to Grandparents! Ahno and I played "Baby Band" and exercised my skinny little appendages. Once again Daddy was sacked out for the day, but Ahno provided splendid entertainment and before long it was evening and time to set out on the road again for the so-short-it-almost-didn't-seem-real twelve-hour car trip home. |
