I have so much to say. Blogger has been acting weird and tripling my posts. I am very behind on everything! Especially pictures.
1. Moss Meadow School Opening Event
My friend Suzanne Moss is opening a school that will be sort of Montessori/Waldorf in the mornings and then more Sudbury Valley in the afternoon with farm animals and gardening and all kinds of stuff. Sounds great and you can go part time which is perfect for us, so we're eagerly awaiting. She was planning to open it in the fall but construction of the various buildings has been dragging so they're shooting for next year. However, they still had their open house, since it had all been planned and arranged, and it was some party. Benny deeply richly enjoyed the moon jump and the pony ride, and painting a big papier mache monster with the other kids. Then there was a concert by the Hunt Family Fiddlers. At one point they played a slow beautiful song with three violins playing harmony and I looked over at Benny and he was crying. I asked him why and he said, "I'm just crying because the song is just pretty." The kids got to do a Maypole complete with dancing to violins playing jigs, and then swim in the pool. I have lots of pictures... another time I will post them. Suzanne invited Benny to a reading workshop she's going to be teaching in her home for six four-year-olds including her own child, and after a lot of thought and discussion, we decided that this would be great for him, so he starts that in June. It will be good for him to learn a systematic approach to reading. Our study of phonics has been very haphazard, especially lately. So, he can read, but there are a lot of holes in his knowledge mostly around the vowel combinations.
2. Academy of Music performance at Stockley Gardens Arts Festival
A group of kids from the Academy of Music's Suzuki program played at the Stockley Gardens Arts Festival on Saturday! Benny was the littlest one there, and for the first time ever in public he played through ALL OF THE TWINKLE VARIATIONS with the bigger kids. It was very thrilling and I must admit I had a bit of a "crying because the song is pretty" experience myself. SO WHEE!!!!!!!!!!!! We are on to Lightly Row. Mrs. Ford was very pleased with his lesson this week and also moved his pinky finger on his bow hand up to the top of the bow, so we are no longer in the "beginner grip" but using a big kid hand position as well. SO FAST THIS HAPPENED.
Hrm. Sadie is asking that we move on to another activity. So.
