This morning on the way downstairs Benny found a dog toy on the landing. It was marked with a blue pawprint. Then he found a dog food and water dish and a Pluto toy, with another paw print! THEN HE FOUND A BOX OF PUPPY BISCUITS! With a third pawprint. Clearly the Legendary Dog Fairy had been busy during the night. When he sat on down in his thinking chair he decided that his 20 stickers on his dog chart had earned him... SOME DOG ITEMS. Of course, this wasn't what the Dog Fairy had in mind. After some subtle prompting from Dad and Mom, Benny went to examine his dog chart to ascertain the number of stickers he actually had. The chart had been replaced by a letter! And directions! He read the letter, examined the map, got dressed in record time, and we were off to find the puppy! Sadie brought her binoculars.
Of course, when we stopped at Starbucks, Benny had to engage some people in conversation. "Hi, how are you doing? How's the weather looking? How's your work going?" Etc. After a long, very earnest ramble from Benny including a completely indecipherable explanation of the Dog Fairy and our trip, one of the guys in the picture asked what school he attended. Benny said, a Homeschool. The guy looked at me and said, "Oh, that explains it." WHATEVER.
We had arranged to make the pick-up in a McDonald's parking lot about 2 hours south, in North Carolina. When we pulled in, Benny leaped from the car and approached the lady who was holding our dog, saying, "WHO IS THAT BOSTON TERRIER FOR?!" Hehehe. It was love. Before we even had the dog settled in the van, Benny said to me, with great good cheer, "I don't love you best anymore, Mom." Guess who he loves best now? Yep. Mr. Puppy Breath. Sadie is also deeply infatuated with the puppy and tells it, "Come on! Come on, puppy!" They both want to pick him up and carry him around. I hope he is sturdy. He is DARLING. He smells exactly right and he already peed on the floor. YAY!
Benny currently wants to name him BOB. Dan and I are leaning toward APU. Any suggestions?
