CHBM Stroller Giveaway

Sarah is a friend of mine. She's a mom, a homeschooler, a doctoral student in Christian Theology and Ethics, and a Confirmed Candidate for ordination in the United Methodist Church. Her husband is also a doctoral candidate, and a pastor, and they have two boys, Isaac and their new baby Theo.

As a prize for surviving the pregnancy she just went through, I think Sarah deserves a whole fleet of new strollers, but one would be great. Crazy Hip Blog Mamas just happen to be giving away a stroller, but there's a twist. Here's the text from the site: Is there another blogger you know who deserves a brand new stroller? Is there someone in your community who is a bit down on their luck and could use some new wheels? Go to your blog and tell us who you would gift a brand new Chicco CT0.

I wouldn't say Sarah and her family are down on their luck. In fact, I'd say they're up on luck, although they would probably dispute the concept of luck on metaphysical grounds. But Sarah is the girl I want to walk away with the new stroller, and here's why:

This supermom just completed a trifecta: homeschooling a bright and interesting elementary school student, finishing her preliminary exams for her doctorate, and gestating a baby. I read about it on her blog, but I could barely believe what I was reading. She read mountains of books, taught her child French, science, baking, gardening, as well as the usual subjects, studied for her exams, created internal organs for her baby, and also managed to knit a pile of beautiful little things for her little one, all at the same time. Now she has the baby. The doctoral exams are over. The degree is well on its way to being in her hand, and the little student is flourishing. How did she manage it?

I'll tell you what she didn't do: moan. With all this on her plate, I never read one "This is wretched" post, one "poor me" whine, one "why now?" lamentation. See for yourself: Here's here Mommy Blog and here's her Smarty Blog. Did she complain? Maybe a little. Did she point out the obvious difficulties in her situation? Sometimes. But through all of that, when the rest of us had jaws dropping open at her incredible fortitude, she chatted about her flowers, about movies, books, she delivered thoughtful meditations on ethics and modern Christianity, and showed entertaining snapshots of her homeschool experience.

Sarah's a homeschooling mom, going through a whole lot of what some might call inconvenience in her own personal life to provide the best education she can to her child. At no time did she indulge in the misery flaunting that has become almost de rigour in mom blogs and pregnancy blogs these days. She didn't gloss over it, but she didn't revel in the agony either, and I really enjoyed reading her blog all through her incredible pregnancy.

For this reason, I'd like Sarah to win the stroller, and I hope she enjoys it.

Wow! I'm all choked up! I don't think I've ever read that many nice things about me in one place!

Or in many places, come to think of it! *g*

Thank you, Lydia, both for the nomination and for the major pick-me-up.
