This week the Creative
Threads Guild interprets patriotic songs in garments for children,
honoring our country in preparation for Memorial Day. I chose the song
"America the Beautiful" and this set is my illustration of
America's horizon. Please see my other

This dress and hat are lined with cotton batiste for a lovely cool feeling on a hot summer day. The dress is pieced with stripes referencing our flag, and a big beautiful sun is appliqued on the front. The outfit is constructed from beautiful hand-dyed cotton, so unusual and striking on a child. |
The brim of the hat is striped to match the dress. The brim can be worn up or down. The top of the hat is pieced in stripes to match the brim and the left side of the dress. |
The back of the dress is split in two parts between a deeper richer blue and sky blue hand dye. The variation in color is amazing in these hand-dyed pieces. |
The sleeves and the hem of the dress are outlined by a satin stitch in shimmery Sulky thread. You can see it around the arm here. |
One demure ruffle around the bottom makes this dress fun to twirl, but very casual for everyday wear and play. |

The dress was made to size 4T-5. This model wears a 3T, and the dress will easily fit a taller child as well, with a shorter hemline. |
