Saturday, September 11, 2004 ( 10:13 AM ) Lostcheerio Sadie has started sharing her little favorite things with us. The other day she offered her binky to Dan with this expression of "Hey, Dad! You gotta try this it's really great!" Hehehe. Last night she offered me her favorite little bath toy to chew, and then later the bottle of baby oil. So sweet! Especially the binky -- that's her most important possession, it's very dear to see her want to share it. SWEET BABY! I'll remember this when she's two, I promise. # (0) comments Friday, September 10, 2004 ( 9:10 AM ) Lostcheerio HELLO DA. We have been back in Virginia for like a year. Well a couple of weeks. However I haven't updated the blog because I had 150 pictures to fix and organize and post, and there was soooo much to say about our trip to South Carolina that it seemed daunting to approach the task in the 2 or 3 minutes here and there that I have to sit down and think about the computer. I have now fixed all the pictures and am preparing to post them here and to Benny's blog, and right here, right now I'm going to try catching up on everything that's been going on with SADIE. My dear little tiny girl had a rock 'em sock 'em fabulous time in South Carolina. She loved the beach with great love -- she liked to sit in the sand and have the waves rush around her, and she loved digging around with her fingers in the sand with Benny. She had no fear of the water whatsoever and in my arms went way out in the ocean and splashed happily and loved the whole thing. Usually we would go down to the beach about the time she was feeling like maybe taking a morning nap, so she would get into the sling and we'd head down there and she'd take her nap in the sling, up to her waist in ocean, while Benny frolicked and played. This was great because I could stay close to him in the water and still have her get her nap. About the time that Benny was ready to go wash off and get in the pool, Sadie would be waking up. She had a little boat that she could sit down in and float around -- which she very much liked. She also liked playing "Mad Baby" which involved me helping her chase Benny around the pool. Any time she saw Benny's face she got very happy and excited, especially if he was laughing or interacting with her. She adores him. While we were there, she started sitting up on her own a little better. Although she still can't get to a sitting up position by herself, she can now stay sitting up for long periods of time. Her favorite thing to do, now at this moment, is to sit in the Boppy next to a bin of her toys and slowly unpack the bin, toy by toy, examining and playing with each one as it comes out. This is charming behavior! I can remember Kristen telling me that Irene liked to do this when she was a baby, and I can remember being totally mystified because Benny would no more have done this than he would have sawed off his own head. Sitting still for any reason was against his religion -- he wanted to go go go! Of course at this age Benny was well on his way to walking. Sadie is most decidedly not. She can say MAMA and DADA though!!! She started saying DADA before we even went to the beach... so at 5.5 or 6 months. We weren't positive she knew what she was saying until we got down to South Carolina, where Dan was not around, and she quit saying it altogether. She started saying MAMA I think as a demand/request/plea for milk or being picked up or whatever, but I think now she understands that MAMA and DADA are people, and she calls us by our titles. A couple times she has said "Bebe" or "Nene" and I really think she's trying to say Benny. If you say, "Where's _____" about a person, she'll look around until she sees them and then smile. SHE IS RATHER SMART!! Thank goodness because she's so ugly. HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is a joke because she is radiantly beautiful and everyone who sees her falls at her feet and worships in speechless adoration. *prim smile* Pictures are coming. While we were in South Carolina, Ahno had to be rushed to the hospital where they determined that her gall bladder was apparently made out of bleu cheese and had to be removed immediately. One week later she had surgery. One week after that she was still in the hospital having bile leaks and this and that and the other thing -- most terrible and appalling and wretched! Benny was very concerned because this was the same place, the same hospital, even (joy!) the same surgeon that was involved last year when Mother died. So, there was some speculation on Benny's part that Ahno would be going to heaven to see Grandma. South Carolina just began to seem like the jumping off place for someplace more profound, from which there is no return. But after a couple more minor surgeries she was allowed to come home and bake on the beach for another week before we all traipsed back to Virginia. Now I'm going to try to get some pictures up. :) # (0) comments |
